The advantage of removing the Pass Phrase is to allow services including: HTTP, SMTP , POP , and IMAP to start automatically without user input.

To remove the built-in pass-phrase from a certificate's key, run the following commands (in that order):

  • cp -a server .key server.key.org
  • openssl rsa -in server.key.org -out server.key
